The Riverman triathlon will take place in Pierre on Saturday, August 5 at Farm Island just east of Pierre. This is central South Dakota’s premier race, and it features the low-key, down-home atmosphere athletes love about life near the river.
Those wanting to tackle Riverman need to be aware this that this particular event features a titch longer distances than the typical east river triathlon. Participants will swim a line of boueys about .4 miles across the river and back, and then they cycle 18 miles out and back along highway 34. Then cap off the event then with a 3.5 mile trail run into and around picturesque Farm Island.
Typically Pierre is the Death Valley of South Dakota in August, but this Saturday’s forecast is uncharacteristically cool and arguably beautiful and perfect for a triathlon. Competitive athletes will want to have their Garmins charged because this is not a chip-timed race. Also, if you’re wondering where to register, just show up at Farm Island’s swim beach around 6:30. Registration will take place from 6:30 to 7:30. Race meeting will take place at 7:40, and the race will start shortly thereafter. This race gives participants the best bang for their buck, costing only $30 right now for individuals and $60 for teams. All proceeds go to the local Boy Scout troop.
If you find yourself hankering for a fun race, head over to Pierre-adise this weekend. There may even still be camp sites available for the adventurous triathlete. Plus, we’ll be there to snap some fantastic pictures of you conquering Farm Island.
